DEBORAH T. BUCKNAM, Esquire
Deborah T. Bucknam has been practicing law in Vermont since 1979, and was licensed to practice in New Hampshire in 2005. She has practiced in all courts in Vermont, including Probate Court, Family Court, District Court, Superior Court, Vermont Supreme Court and Federal Court. She has litigated hundreds of contested matters. Deborah graduated from Vermont Law School, cum laude, in 1979. She is a member of the Vermont Bar Association, New Hampshire Bar Association, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America (former member of the Board of Governors), the American Bar Association, and Chair Caledonia County Republican Committee.
 
MARY MCLEOD, Esquire
MARY MCLEOD, EsquireMary McLeod has been practicing law since 1993. Ms. McLeod attended Wellesley College before receiving her Bachelor of Arts in music from Brown University in 1984. As a student at the Northeastern University School of Law, Ms. McLeod completed a program of cooperative studies with the Honorable Ernest C. Torres of the United States District Court for the District of Rhode Island, with the Office of Legal Aid in Canberra, Australia, and with the Rhode Island law firm of Licht & Semonoff. After receiving her juris doctorate from Northeastern University in 1993, Ms. McLeod continued work as an associate at Licht & Semonoff, before moving to the South Kingstown practice. In 1998, Attorney McLeod practiced as a partner at Kenyon & McLeod, LLP in South Kingstown, Rhode Island. As a member of the Rhode Island and Massachusetts bar, she focused in the areas of real estate, family, and commercial law. Mary was licensed in 2006 to practice in Vermont. She is President of the Caledonia County Bar.

JENNIFER B. BLACK, EsquireJennifer B. Black has been practicing law since 2000. She earned a B.A. degree from Tufts University, and a J. D. from Boston University School of Law. She was formerly an associate in the corporate department of Wilmerhale, LLP (formerly Hale and Dorr, LLP.) in Boston, Massachusetts. She is licensed to practice in Massachusetts and Vermont. She focuses her work on business, corporate and financial matters.
 
AARON R. MELVILLE, Esquire

Melville, has been licensed to practice law in Vermont Since 2005.  Mr. Melville attended Westminster College in Salt Lake City, Utah where he earned his B.A. in International Business in 2002 and a M.B.A. in 2005.  He received his J.D. from Vermont Law School in 2005.  In 2004 Mr. Melville clerked with the Vermont Department of Labor and Industry under the direction of the Worker’s Compensation Hearing officer.  Later that same year he enrolled in the Vermont Law Semester in Practice program where he worked full-time in the legal department at Tyco Fire and Security in Boca Raton, Florida.  In 2005 he accepted a position at Timken Aerospace in Lebanon NH as Principal Contracts Administration Analyst where he reviewed and negotiated contracts (domestic and international) and ensured exports complied with U.S export regulations including the EAR, ITAR, and OFAC regulations. In late 2006 he joined Concepts NREC in Wilder, VT as a Senior Contracts Specialist working again with export regulations and contracts.  In 2007 he also assumed the role of Adjunct Professor at Champlain College where he teaches an Import/Export course.  Mr. Melville joined this firm in July of 2007. Mr. Melville is active in the community.  Since 2005 he has served on the Board of Directors of the Upper Valley United Way and is currently the Grant Review Chair.  He has also served as Vice-Chair of the Windsor County Republican Committee, a Boy Scout leader, a youth advocate in the Americorps and Boys and Girls Club, and in many ways in his Church.  Mr. Melville is a member of the American Bar Association, Vermont Bar Association, and the J. Rueben Clark Law Society. Mr. Melville is fluent in Spanish.

Michael Roosevelt joined the Law Firm of Deborah T. Bucknam & Associates in June 2007, participating in a four year law clerkship program.  He earned his BFA degree from Carnegie Mellon University, his BS degree from the University of Plano, Plano, Texas, and his MFA from the Tyler School of Art of Temple University in Philadelphia.  He is a member of the Certified Appraisers Guild of America. He has had extensive and varied work experience as an artist, small business owner, school administrator and educator.  He has exhibited his work internationally, including Canada, Japan, Italy, Mexico and France.
 
MARLA SAWYER, Paralegal
MARLA SAWYER
Marla Sawyer is a paralegal who has over 11 years of experience in the legal field.  In Boston, she worked for the Massachusetts State Ethics Commission and the Office of General Counsel for the US Department of Health and Human Services.  Ms. Sawyer moved to northern Vermont 15 years ago and has held positions as a newspaper reporter and legal assistant, with experience in several practice areas, including real estate, probate, insurance defense, personal injury, criminal defense and family law. She has been a paralegal with our office since 2005. In addition to working and raising four children, Ms. Sawyer is currently enrolled at Woodbury College to complete a BA in pre-law/legal studies.

Vanessa Koch, our Practice Manager, has worked in Law Firms in New Hampshire and Vermont since 1992. Her background includes legal assistant, personal injury litigation paralegal and office manager.
